However, you can decide for yourself whether you wish to use a pre-pay card or a subscription. If the protected object is regularly taken abroad you need to have a pre-pay package that allows calls to be made from abroad without additional charges or a subscription. For the steps below you must first place the sim card that will eventually be fitted into the com unit in your own GSM handset. 3.1 Activating the sim card See the manual supplied by your operator. 3.2 Adding call credit Add any additional telephone cards with extra call credit immediately in accordance with the operator’s manual. 3.3 PIN All sim cards automatically request a pin code. This must be switched off in accordance with your operator’s manual. 3.4 Pre-programmed numbers Some operators program numbers onto the sim card for voicemail etc. You must delete these in accordance with your operator’s manual. 3.5 Pre-programming Now program your own GSM number only onto the sim card for the com unit. Always prefix it with +44 (United Kingdom), and remove the 0. If your handset does not accept the sim card, consult your supplier. N.B. MAKE SURE YOU PROGRAM THE NUMBER ONTO THE SIM CARD AND NOT ONTO YOUR HANDSET ! 3.6 Fitting the sim card Open the back of the com unit and first remove the internal battery R. Now place the sim card into the com unit’s sim card holder S in accordance with the diagram. Replace battery R and close the com unit. 3.7 Programming your own GSM handset Now program the GSM number of the com unit into your own GSM and give it a clearly identifiable name for the object being protected by the com unit. 3.8 Call-hold For your com unit to operate as effectively as possible you need to activate the so-called call-hold/easy switch in your own GSM (see the manual from your own operator). This ensures that your com unit can also reach you if you are in the middle of a call. 4.0 Call charges Consult your operator for the current call charges for your com unit. These are always stated on operators’ internet sites. 5.0 Coverage Always check whether your sim card is receiving a sufficient signal from the com unit using your own GSM. If it is not, install an external antenna. 6.0 Checking To check your call credit and to activate and add your pre-pay card, consult your operator. 7.0 Guarantee The product supplied is covered by a 6-month guarantee, which takes effect from the date of purchase. This guarantee does not apply in the event of the incorrect assembly or improper use of the product as described here. After examining the defective product, com care for property b.v. will make the final decision on whether a defective product is covered by the guarantee. The guarantee will lapse in all cases if it becomes clear when a defective product is submitted that you have undertaken repairs/disassembly yourself. 8.0 Liability The manufacturer accepts no liability for the incorrect connection or programming of the com unit and its sim card. Furthermore, com care for property b.v. accepts no liability for the coverage of the operator and/or other network problems. The manufacturer will not be liable for any consequential damage. 9.0 Use of the com unit If the com unit is activated it will call the pre-programmed number (your GSM). You must then answer your telephone. (You may now speak to any people present in the vicinity of the protected object if you have connected the optional loudspeaker.) You must then break off the connection with your own GSM. You can then take action by immediately phoning the police to report the incident and possibly to pass on a description of the perpetrators.
